Emirates flights disrupted as UAE partially closes airspace following Iranian strikes
Civil aviation and airlines adjust operations amid regional instability
ABU DHABI – Escalating regional tensions following Iranian strikes have prompted partial closures of UAE airspace, affecting several Emirates flights.
The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed the exceptional measure is aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers, flight crews, and the country’s air sovereignty.
Airlines are adjusting operations, and passengers have been advised to check schedules and seek assistance as needed.
Partial sirspace shutdown
The GCAA stated the partial closure follows a comprehensive assessment of security and operational risks, conducted in coordination with national and international authorities. Safety remains the absolute priority, with authorities closely monitoring the situation and providing timely updates. Passengers affected by disruptions are being assisted with rebooking, refunds, or alternative travel arrangements.

Emirates, the world’s largest international carrier, apologised for the inconvenience. “Regional airspace closures have caused disruption to several Emirates flights. We are actively monitoring the situation, engaging with relevant authorities, and adjusting our operations in line with the latest developments,” a spokesperson said.
UAE defence response
The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that Iranian ballistic missiles targeted the country today. Advanced air defence systems intercepted a number of missiles, though some debris fell in a residential area, causing material damage and resulting in one civilian fatality of an Asian national. Authorities emphasised the security situation remains stable, with constant monitoring across all concerned entities.
The Ministry strongly condemned the attack, stating it violates national sovereignty and international law. Officials affirmed the UAE reserves the right to respond and will continue implementing all necessary measures to protect its territory, citizens, and residents.
Public safety
The Ministry of Interior reiterated its commitment to public safety, emphasising all precautionary measures are in place and urging the public to rely solely on official sources. Residents and visitors were advised to avoid circulating unverified information and to cooperate fully with authorities to ensure safety and stability.
