Community volunteers to hand out over 1,000 flags
DUBAI – Dubai is gearing up to host the Al Etihad Parade on 2nd December, marking the 54th Eid Al Etihad.
Organised by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office, in collaboration with the Events Security Committee, the parade is part of the ‘National Month’ campaign launched by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The initiative highlights the UAE’s spirit of unity and progress, inviting residents and citizens to join in an event that celebrates the country’s journey and shared identity.
The parade will commence at Dubai Maritime City at 3:00pm, with the procession moving along Jumeirah Road from the Union House intersection to the Burj Al Arab intersection between 4:00pm and 5:30pm. Participants will enjoy a vibrant display of community spirit, cultural pride, and national symbols along the route.
Over 30 volunteers from the Community Development Authority (CDA) will support the event by distributing more than 1,000 UAE flags to attendees. This gesture reflects the growing culture of volunteering in Dubai, where community members play an active role in national celebrations. Shaima Al Suwaidi, Director of Brand Dubai, emphasised that the parade provides a platform for residents to participate responsibly while celebrating the UAE’s heritage and achievements.
Reem Obaid Al Awabed, Director of Social Programmes at CDA, added that the parade aligns with the ‘Year of the Community’, highlighting the importance of social cohesion and individual contributions to national identity. Volunteers’ participation showcases Dubai’s commitment to fostering engagement, belonging, and civic responsibility.
Parade route and timings
The parade route stretches along Jumeirah Road, providing easy access to spectators and ensuring a safe, organised flow. Residents are encouraged to arrive early to secure viewing spots and to adhere to traffic instructions provided by police personnel deployed along the route. Authorities recommend using public transport where possible, as parking may be limited in nearby areas.
Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, noted that the 54th Eid Al Etihad celebrations will include cultural, culinary, and entertainment activities, drawing participation from residents of more than 200 nationalities. The parade is expected to be a highlight of these celebrations, offering families an opportunity to engage with the city’s cultural fabric and enjoy a safe, family-friendly environment.
Safety guidelines
Organisers have emphasised strict adherence to approved guidelines and safety regulations to ensure a smooth and secure event. Key rules include:
- Only authorised participants may join the parade. Unregulated processions are prohibited.
- Passengers must remain inside moving vehicles; extending body parts outside windows or sunroofs is strictly forbidden.
- Vehicles must not have obstructed windows, unlicensed modifications, or loud audio systems.
- Fireworks, celebratory sprays, or aerosol products are not permitted.
- Vehicles carrying more than the permitted number of passengers or sitting in non-designated areas will be penalised.
- Any use of inappropriate stickers, flags, or slogans is prohibited.
Non-compliance may result in fines from Dh10,000 to Dh100,000, vehicle impoundment for more than 90 days, 24 black points, and potential driving licence suspension, according to Decree No. (30).
The Events Security Committee emphasised that police patrols will maintain traffic flow, enforce safety measures, and ensure participants follow official instructions. Spectators are advised to stay within designated areas, avoid obstructing traffic, and monitor official channels for updates.
