DUBAI – The Dubai Marathon is back for 2026, marking a landmark 25th edition of the region’s oldest international road race.
This year promises an extra special celebration as thousands of runners from over 140 countries descend on the city on Sunday, February 1. Alongside the iconic 42.195km full marathon, participants can choose the 10km race or the 4km fun run, making the event accessible to all fitness levels.
Leading up to the marathon, organisers are hosting a series of special events to energise runners and spectators alike, highlighting Dubai’s commitment to sports and wellness.
Dubai Marathon
The Dubai Marathon has a reputation for record-breaking performances. In 2008, legendary runner Haile Gebrselassie recorded the second-fastest marathon time in history during his debut in Dubai. Last year, Ethiopian runner Boti Gelemeshu claimed the men’s title with a time of 2:04:51, while Berdado Hirpa won the women’s race, setting a personal best of 2:18:27.
Race Director Peter Connerton said, “In coordination with the Dubai Sports Council and other government partners, we are delighted to announce the opening of registration for the 25th Dubai Marathon. To mark the silver jubilee, we are preparing a year-long series of special events leading up to race day.”
Race routes
The marathon route begins opposite Madinat Jumeirah and runs past iconic landmarks including the Burj Al Arab, offering runners a scenic yet challenging course. Participants can select from the full marathon, a 10km run, or the 4km fun run, accommodating both elite athletes and casual runners.
As always, the organisers are coordinating with Dubai authorities to implement necessary road closures and diversions, ensuring safety for all participants and minimal disruption to city traffic.

Registration for the Dubai Marathon 2026 is open, with entry fees starting from Dh550.

Dubai Metro time extension
Dubai Metro commuters will benefit from extended operational hours on race day. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that both the Red Line and Green Line will operate from 5am until midnight on Sunday, February 1, allowing easy access for participants and spectators. Under normal schedules, metro services on Sundays begin at 8am.
This extension ensures smooth mobility across the city and encourages residents and visitors to use public transport while sections of Umm Suqeim Street are temporarily closed for the marathon.
