Dubai: 350 most wanted number plates set for exclusive online auction
Two to five-digit vehicle plates to be auctioned over five days
DUBAI’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is preparing to auction 350 distinctive vehicle number plates as part of its 80th online sale, which will open for bidding on Monday, 11 August.
Running for five days, the auction will offer exclusive two, three, four, and five-digit plates for private and classic vehicles.
Registration to participate begins a week earlier, on Monday, 4 August.
Codes and categories
The auction includes a wide range of codes: H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z – plus Classic plates. These highly sought-after codes often draw large bids, with past auctions seeing two-digit combinations such as ‘AA16’ selling for as much as Dh7.32 million.
How to participate
Interested bidders must hold a valid traffic file registered in Dubai. A refundable security cheque of Dh5,000 payable to the RTA and a non-refundable Dh120 participation fee are required. Payments can be made at Customer Happiness Centres in Deira, Al Barsha, or Umm Ramool, or online via the RTA’s website.
Winning and payment
Successful bidders are required to finalise payment within ten working days of the auction’s close. For amounts up to Dh50,000, cash payments are accepted at authorised service centres. Larger amounts must be paid by certified cheque or credit card. All transactions are subject to 5% VAT and can also be completed online or at RTA counters.
