DUBAI – Police in Dubai have returned 171,490 lost items to their rightful owners in 2025, underlining a sustained push towards smart policing and efficient public services.

The achievement reflects a broader effort to enhance safety, streamline reporting processes and strengthen trust between authorities and residents. Officials confirmed that thousands of cases were resolved through coordinated systems and continuous public engagement.

The figures were released by the General Department of Criminal Investigation, represented by the Lost and Found Department, which continues to expand its operational capacity through advanced technologies and accessible reporting channels.

Smart recovery

Over the past year, Dubai Police handled a total of 868,110 found items, demonstrating the scale of lost property management across the emirate. During the same period, 159,962 reports of lost belongings were recorded through police stations, Smart Police Stations and designated drop-off points such as shopping centres.

Authorities said an advanced smart system plays a central role in matching lost item reports with recovered property. The platform enables quick identification, reduces processing time and allows specialised teams to contact owners efficiently. The system operates round the clock, ensuring continuous monitoring and rapid response to incoming reports.

Public cooperation

Officials emphasised that public cooperation remains essential in maintaining high recovery rates. Residents and visitors regularly hand in found items through official channels, significantly improving the chances of timely returns. This collective participation highlights a culture of responsibility and reinforces trust in law enforcement services.

The department also offers flexible collection methods, including direct communication with owners and multiple retrieval options. These services are designed to improve convenience and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction, aligning with wider government goals to enhance quality of life.

Plate reporting

Dubai Police have also issued guidance regarding lost vehicle number plates, particularly following recent weather conditions and rainfall. Motorists are advised to report missing plates immediately by calling 901 or visiting the nearest police station.

Specialised teams handle such cases with urgency, ensuring that recovered plates are matched and returned to their owners as quickly as possible. For added convenience, number plates can also be delivered via Emirates Post if the owner is unable to collect them in person.

Authorities reiterated the importance of using official channels to report or hand in lost property, noting that prompt action supports faster recovery and protects the belongings of others across the emirate.
