Dubai Police reunite Arab traveller with bag carrying $20,000 and gold at airport
Quick action helps passenger before flight to Saudi Arabia
DUBAI – A swift effort by Dubai Police's General Department of Airport Security has helped an Arab traveller recover a bag containing $20,000, 150 grams of gold and other valuables after it was misplaced at Terminal 1 of Dubai International Airport.
The incident unfolded when an employee discovered a black bag left in an open area of the terminal. Security officers immediately inspected the contents and found a significant amount of cash, gold, multiple mobile phones, personal documents and other currencies.
Although documents inside the bag revealed the owner's identity, authorities faced a challenge in locating her, as no report matching the lost property had been filed. According to Colonel Abdullah Faisal Al Dosari, Director of the Terminal 1 Security Department, a dedicated team was formed to trace the traveller's movements and determine her whereabouts.
Swift action
Col. Al Dosari said the operations room was alerted and the necessary procedures were initiated to identify and contact the owner. Investigations revealed that the traveller was preparing to leave the UAE for Saudi Arabia.
The traveller was reportedly distressed after realising the bag was missing. She was uncertain about how to proceed and feared the loss could cause her to miss her flight.
Successful return
Dubai Police successfully located the traveller before her departure and completed the required legal procedures to return the belongings. Authorities also verified that she possessed all necessary permits and documentation relating to the valuable items found inside the bag.
The bag was then handed back with all of its contents intact, including the $20,000, 150 grams of gold, mobile phones, personal documents and other currencies.
The traveller expressed her happiness and gratitude to Dubai Police, praising the team's efforts in recovering her belongings and highlighting their commitment to assisting travellers and returning lost property.
