Asian Youth Games 2025: Alketbi claims gold, Alqubaisi takes silver for UAE
Mubadala-backed team praised for skill, discipline and determination
DUBAI/MANAMA – The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team, sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company, began its campaign at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain with a golden performance, claiming two medals on the opening day.
Obaid Alketbi captured gold in the 56kg division, while teammate Salem Alqubaisi earned silver in the 62kg category.
The first day of competition featured thrilling bouts and exceptional performances from across Asia, as the UAE athletes impressed with their skill, composure and strategic discipline on the mat.
Strong performances
The team displayed tactical precision and unwavering focus, reflecting the benefits of their recent intensive training camp. Their controlled and energetic approach brought the strategies of their coaching team to life, securing a well-deserved place on the podium.
Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said the results highlight the steady growth of Emirati talent. “These victories are a reflection of the unwavering support of our wise leadership, which provides every opportunity for our athletes to succeed,” he said.
Youth development
Al Batran praised the Federation’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of champions, adding that Mubadala’s continued partnership exemplifies national investment in sport and youth empowerment.
Gold medallist Obaid Alketbi said: “I’m proud of this achievement after months of hard training and preparation. The competition was tough, but our determination to make the UAE proud gave us the push we needed.”
Silver medallist Salem Alqubaisi echoed his teammate’s sentiments: “The level of competition was very high, but with strong preparation, guidance from our coaches, and encouragement from my teammates, I was able to perform well. It’s an honour to represent my country here.”
