UAE: Faya site boundaries approved for UNESCO World Heritage nomination
Historic site represents over 200,000 years of continuous human connection
SHARJAH: The boundaries of the Faya Palaeolandscape – an ancient desert site bearing evidence of over 200,000 years of human activity – have officially been approved for UNESCO World Heritage nomination by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the official ambassador for the UNESCO nomination, hailed the decision as a reflection of Sharjah’s enduring commitment to heritage preservation.
She remarked that the move demonstrates a far-sighted vision and deep-rooted dedication to safeguarding humanity’s shared cultural and historical legacy.

Described as a vital chapter in the story of human evolution and adaptability, the Faya site offers rare archaeological insights into early migration patterns. It provides compelling evidence of ancient human presence in the region, bridging the past and present with a narrative that is both locally rooted and globally relevant.

Highlighting Sharjah’s collaborative approach, Sheikha Bodour stated that the emirate is working diligently to ensure the site gains the recognition it merits on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
