Japan extends visa-free stay to 90 days for UAE nationals
Embassy in Tokyo confirms new visa-free arrangement effective July 1
DUBAI: Travelling to Japan will soon be even more convenient for the citizens of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Starting July 1, 2025, citizens of the UAE holding ordinary passports will be able to enjoy visa-free stays in Japan for up to 90 days – tripling the current allowance of 30 days.
The UAE Embassy in Tokyo confirmed the update, offering increased flexibility for Emirati visitors.
This arrangement is applicable to those visiting Japan for short-term purposes, including tourism, business, or to see friends and family. It marks a notable expansion of the visa exemption framework that has been in place since November 2022, when UAE nationals were first permitted to travel without a visa.

Eligibility requirements
To benefit from the 90-day visa-free entry, travellers must be UAE citizens carrying valid ordinary passports that are ICAO-compliant (i.e. electronic or IC passports).
The intended stay must be temporary and not exceed the permitted time period. No visa application is necessary if the visit is for leisure, work meetings, or personal visits.
Mutual visa benefits
This development follows a similar gesture from the UAE in 2024, when it introduced a visa waiver for Japanese citizens. Holders of Japanese passports can also stay in the Emirates for up to 90 days without a visa. These reciprocal measures highlight a growing commitment to bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
The new rule opens more opportunities for cultural, economic, and tourism-related exchanges between Japan and the UAE – a relationship that continues to deepen across multiple sectors.
