Who can apply for Oman’s 10-year Golden Residency visa and how to secure it
Residency routes available for global investors and professionals
DUBAI – Oman has officially launched its Golden Residency programme, granting foreign investors and skilled professionals long-term stability in the Sultanate.
Announced during the “Sustainable Business Environment” forum in Salalah under the patronage of Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the initiative aims to attract global talent and capital as part of the country’s Vision 2040 strategy.
Oman’s Golden Residency visa
The Golden Residency visa allows foreigners to secure renewable residence permits for up to 10 years. Unlike short-term visas, this pathway enables investors and their families to live, work, and invest in Oman with greater flexibility. Family sponsorship covers spouses, children, and first-degree relatives, with no limit on age or number.
Available in two tiers, the programme provides a five-year residency card for investments of at least RO250,000 (Dh2.38 million), and a 10-year card for investments starting from RO500,000 (Dh4.76 million). Fees are RO326 for the five-year card and RO551 for the 10-year version.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, financially solvent, and free of any criminal record. They must also hold a valid passport and health insurance. Expatriates already residing in Oman can also qualify if they meet the requirements, including retirees who receive a monthly fixed income of at least RO4,000 (Dh38,100).
Investors may qualify through several financial routes, each requiring a minimum of RO200,000 (Dh1.9 million):
- Establishing or owning companies with qualifying capital and assets.
- Purchasing property in integrated tourism complexes.
- Buying government bonds with at least two years to maturity.
- Investing in listed equities worth at least RO200,000.
- Placing a fixed deposit in an Omani bank for five years.
- Owning firms employing 50 or more Omani nationals.
- Being nominated under the Foreign Investment Law by qualifying companies.
What documents are needed?
Applicants must provide evidence of their financial commitment and personal background. Commonly required documents include:
- Proof of investment such as property deeds, company licences, or bond certificates.
- Bank statements reflecting deposits or equity holdings.
- Police clearance certificates confirming no criminal record.
- Valid health insurance covering the applicant and dependants.
- Family relationship certificates such as marriage or birth records.
How to apply?
Applications are submitted through Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP). The process involves:
- Selecting an eligible investment route.
- Submitting proof of the investment or property purchase.
- Providing supporting documents including passports and insurance.
- Paying the prescribed application fee to MoCIIP.
Upon approval, applicants are granted a renewable five or 10-year residency card depending on their chosen tier.
What benefits are offered?
Beyond residency rights, holders of the Golden Residency enjoy several privileges. These include fast-track airport services, the ability to hire up to three domestic workers, and property ownership rights outside designated tourism complexes – areas typically restricted for non-Omanis.
The visa also ensures long-term business stability, making Oman a secure environment for planning investments. Holders can sponsor their families without restrictions and benefit from Oman’s high global standing in the 2024 Quality of Life Index, where the country ranked fourth worldwide.
Additionally, the government supports applicants through accredited consultancies such as Alam Al-Hijrah, which operates in more than 60 international locations, offering guidance and facilitation services.
