ABU DHABI – Abu Dhabi’s waterpark scene takes a significant leap forward as Yas Waterworld Yas Island officially opens its latest expansion today.
The upgrade introduces 11 new rides and attractions, adding scale and variety to one of the capital’s most popular leisure destinations. With the expansion complete, the park now offers more than 70 experiences, catering to thrill-seekers, families and those looking to unwind.
Developed by Miral, the project marks the next phase in the park’s ongoing evolution, building on its established theme centred around The Legend of the Lost Pearl. While the storytelling continues, the latest additions place a clear focus on high-energy attractions and expanded guest experiences.
UAE’s tallest waterslide
At the centre of the expansion is Matamir’s Drop, now recognised as the tallest waterslide in the UAE. The ride begins at a height of more than 40 metres, sending riders into a near-vertical plunge before continuing through a 233-metre slide run. Designed for maximum intensity, it introduces a new benchmark for water-based thrill rides in the country.
This headline attraction positions the park more competitively within the region’s growing entertainment landscape, particularly as Abu Dhabi continues to strengthen its tourism offering.
New slides
The expansion features a collection of new slides designed to deliver varying levels of excitement. Sahel Matamir stands out as a freefall tube racer, propelling riders through rapid accelerations and moments of zero gravity. The experience is structured to combine speed with unpredictability, offering a dynamic ride profile.
Matamir Loop delivers a high-speed descent in a compact format, focusing on quick drops and immediate impact. Meanwhile, Matamir Twist incorporates immersive lighting effects, enhancing the visual experience as riders move through sharp turns and fast transitions.
For visitors seeking competitive fun, Matamir Splash introduces a dual-lane mat racer where participants can slide side-by-side, adding a social and interactive element to the attraction lineup.
Family zones
Beyond high-adrenaline rides, the expansion also introduces more relaxed, family-oriented spaces. Sarab, a newly developed leisure pool, offers a calmer environment designed for families and groups looking to spend extended time within the park. The area provides a contrast to the more intense attractions, supporting a broader visitor demographic.
Al Afda adds another dimension with its jump platform, allowing guests to leap into the water from height. The attraction caters to visitors looking for a simpler but still engaging experience, combining physical activity with an element of challenge.
Bigger offering
The addition of eight new slides, two jump platforms and a leisure pool significantly enhances the park’s overall capacity and variety. With more than 70 rides, slides and attractions now available, Yas Waterworld Yas Island strengthens its position as a key component of Abu Dhabi’s entertainment ecosystem.
