Emirates marks UAE-Kuwait Week with special flights, desserts and cultural tributes
Route history spans 36 years and more than 16 million passengers
DUBAI – Emirates has marked UAE-Kuwait Week with a series of onboard initiatives highlighting the long-standing relationship between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Kuwait.
The airline introduced themed services across its flights while reflecting on decades of aviation links that have connected the two nations. The week also placed focus on cultural exchange, passenger experience and expanding cooperation in both passenger and cargo operations.
Across all cabin classes on its 30 weekly services between Dubai and Kuwait, Emirates served a selection of traditional desserts. Passengers were offered a Pistachio Rahash Tart, while First and Business Class travellers also enjoyed a Gahwa Tart.
In Premium Economy and Economy Class, a Toffee Date Cake was served. Special onboard announcements were also made to underline the significance of UAE–Kuwait Week and the enduring ties between the two countries.
Onboard experience
Entertainment formed another key element of the celebrations. Travellers had access to a wide range of Arabic content, including popular Kuwaiti films and television programmes such as Gergasha, Fath Hesab, Al Sohba Al Holwa and Darb Al Zalag. Music from leading Kuwaiti artists including Abdallah Al Rowaished, Mutref Al Mutref and Nabeel Shuail was also featured, offering passengers a curated cultural selection during their journey.
Flight EK855 on 2 February carried additional symbolic significance. The service was commanded by Kuwaiti national Captain Husain Alabdulmohsen alongside Emirati First Officer Ishaq Abdulla. The pairing reflected the cooperation and shared values between the two nations, as well as the deep-rooted partnership that extends across aviation and beyond.
UAE-Kuwait
Kuwait was among the first GCC destinations added to the Emirates network when services began in 1989. The route initially operated with a Boeing 727 on just two weekly flights. Today, 29 of the 30 weekly services are operated using retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft and the latest Airbus A350s, all equipped with Premium Economy cabins in addition to the airline’s established products across other classes.
Over more than three decades, Emirates has carried over 16 million passengers on more than 81,000 flights to and from Kuwait. These services link travellers not only to Dubai but to over 150 destinations across the airline’s global network. Kuwait is also home to more than 268,000 members of the Emirates Skywards loyalty programme.
Kuwait was among the first destinations to receive the Airbus A350 following its entry into service in January 2025. Emirates now operates two daily A350 flights between Dubai and Kuwait. The aircraft offers wider aisles, quieter cabins, advanced lighting designed to reduce jet lag and the airline’s inflight entertainment system, ice.
Partnerships and cargo operations further underpin the aviation relationship. Emirates and Kuwait Airways signed an interline agreement last year, expanding connectivity for passengers on both networks. Under the arrangement, Kuwait Airways customers gain access to 19 destinations on the Emirates network, including cities in Australia, China, Japan, the United States and South Africa. Emirates passengers benefit from improved access to regional destinations served by Kuwait Airways, including Egypt, Iraq, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Trade links are also supported through dedicated cargo services. Emirates operates a weekly freighter service to Kuwait, while belly-hold capacity on passenger aircraft supplements cargo movement. Over the past five years, Emirates SkyCargo has transported more than 165,000 tonnes of goods to and from Kuwait. Shipments have included fresh produce, pharmaceuticals and Mail and Courier consignments into Kuwait, while supporting local businesses in exporting products to the UAE and global markets.
