ABU DHABI – The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) in the UAE capital has announced the expansion of its Robotaxi services to Khalifa City, Masdar City, and Rabdan, under the supervision of the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council.

The move is part of Abu Dhabi’s broader vision to advance sustainable and smart mobility solutions while enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors.

The announcement was made during the seventh Unmanned Systems Exhibition (UMEX) and the Simulation and Training Exhibition (SimTEX), showcasing the emirate’s commitment to next-generation transport technologies.

New routes

Building on the service’s success since its 2021 launch across Yas, Al Saadiyat, Al Reem, and Al Maryah Islands, as well as Zayed International Airport, ITC is now extending operations to high-density, high-activity areas.

The expansion introduces new routes connecting Abu Dhabi Corniche with Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, giving residents and visitors more options for autonomous travel. The service is commercially operated by WeRide and Uber, in collaboration with local operator Tawasul Transport, following approved permits.

Growing demand

The next phase will include an expansion of the autonomous vehicle fleet to meet increasing demand and support rapid growth. Since its launch, the service has recorded nearly 150 percent growth in trips during 2025, reflecting previous operational expansions and rising user confidence in the smart technologies employed.

Autonomous vehicles have also achieved a 99.9 percent safety rate, demonstrating their reliability.

Infrastructure upgrades

ITC, working with the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council and development partners, continues to enhance the supporting infrastructure for autonomous driving. Upgrades include improved monitoring and control systems, next-generation connectivity, and a safe, reliable operating environment for the vehicles.
