Emirates unveils giant UAE flag livery on iconic Airbus A380 aircraft
Bold design celebrates national unity and aviation excellence across global network
DUBAI – Emirates has unveiled a striking new livery featuring a large UAE flag emblazoned across the fuselage of its iconic Airbus A380 aircraft, the world’s largest commercial passenger aircraft.
The aircraft, registered as A6-EVG, showcases a bold visual extension of the airline’s signature tail design. The design stands as a tribute to the spirit, ambition and unity of the UAE, reflecting national identity on one of the most visible platforms in global aviation.
The aircraft has already begun operating international routes, carrying the new design across continents.
National pride
The initiative forms part of Emirates’ ‘This Flag Will Always Fly’ campaign, launched in response to a nationwide call by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The campaign encouraged citizens and residents to raise the UAE flag as a unifying symbol of national pride, cohesion and shared responsibility. It followed broader efforts to reinforce unity and collective strength during recent national initiatives.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates airline and Group, said the airline was proud to answer the call to raise the flag. He noted that every Emirates aircraft has carried the UAE flag since the airline’s inception, symbolising the nation wherever it flies. The new livery, he said, is a tribute to a country that has enabled the airline’s growth and global reach. He also highlighted that the skies provide the most powerful stage for the national flag, representing both pride and responsibility.
Global routes
The special livery features the UAE’s national colours in a bold, three-dimensional design that flows across both sides of the aircraft. It has already been seen on routes to New York and Brisbane and will be deployed on additional Airbus A380 destinations across the Emirates network. The aircraft is expected to appear at major international airports, making the design visible from runways, skies and cityscapes around the world.
Plans are also underway to extend the flag design to an Emirates Boeing 777, the second-largest commercial aircraft in operation after the A380. This expansion will further increase the visibility of the national symbol across the airline’s global operations.
The UAE flag remains a permanent feature across Emirates’ fleet, displayed on aircraft tails as they travel across continents and time zones daily. The new livery adds to a history of special commemorative designs, including a tribute aircraft for the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in 2017 during the ‘Year of Zayed’. That same year, Emirates also introduced a series of aircraft liveries dedicated to Expo 2020 Dubai, marking major national milestones through its fleet.
