Dubai upgrades five marine stations as RTA completes Phase II revamp
Enhanced accessibility, safety systems and real-time travel information introduced
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed Phase II of its Marine Transport Station Waiting Area Upgrade Project, covering five prominent locations across Dubai.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance marine transport infrastructure and elevate service standards in line with Dubai’s global mobility ambitions. The latest upgrades further strengthen the city’s reputation as a leading destination for integrated and customer-focused transport systems.
The second phase included improvements at Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Fahidi, Bluewaters, Baniyas and Al Seef marine transport stations. Each location was selected based on detailed customer satisfaction assessments, ensuring that upgrades address user needs while supporting operational efficiency and service quality.
Design
The upgraded waiting areas incorporate design elements inspired by Dubai’s maritime heritage, blending cultural identity with modern urban functionality. The approach reflects a balance between tradition and contemporary development, with carefully planned layouts aimed at improving passenger flow and comfort.
Enhancements introduced during this phase include air-conditioning systems, expanded waiting areas and additional seating. Entry and exit points have been redesigned to better accommodate senior citizens and women, ensuring smoother access and movement within the stations.
The upgrades also support physical, psychological and social wellbeing, aligning with Dubai’s broader Quality of Life Strategy.
Smart features
Passengers now benefit from a range of smart services, including free Wi-Fi, public address systems and real-time passenger information display screens. These additions are designed to provide timely updates on marine transport services while improving the overall travel experience.
Safety and security measures have also been strengthened across all upgraded stations. Waiting areas are equipped with surveillance cameras and fire alarm systems, with all facilities compliant with regulatory standards. These measures contribute to a secure and well-organised environment for daily commuters and visitors alike.
Inclusive access
The project integrates the requirements of Dubai Universal Design Code for People of Determination, ensuring accessibility across all upgraded stations. Essential facilities have been incorporated to support inclusive mobility, reflecting RTA’s commitment to serving all segments of society.
Phase II builds on the success of Phase I, completed last year, which covered five stations in the Marina area, including Marina Promenade, Marina Terrace, Marina Walk, and Marina Mall Marine Transport Stations North and South. That phase recorded high levels of customer satisfaction, setting a benchmark for subsequent upgrades.
