Dubai Police extradite three Belgian fugitives in major crime bust
Suspects face charges including drug trafficking and human trafficking
DUBAI Police have arrested and extradited three Belgian nationals to authorities in Belgium, following international arrest warrants issued in connection with cases of cross-border organised crime.
The suspects – Mathias Akyazili, Giorgi Faes, and Othman El Ballouti – were listed among the most wanted by INTERPOL and Europol.
Held under INTERPOL red notices, the individuals were apprehended in a high-level operation that underlined the strength of Dubai Police’s collaboration with global enforcement bodies. The trio face serious charges, including running an organised crime group, trafficking narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, armed robbery, and human trafficking.
Dubai hands over fugitives
The extradition followed a detailed investigation spearheaded by Dubai Police’s General Department of Criminal Investigation, in coordination with the UAE Ministry of Interior. The process was initiated after Belgian authorities submitted an international arrest warrant to the International Cooperation Department at the UAE Ministry of Justice – designated as the central authority for such global cooperation.
Dubai authorities confirmed that all judicial and legal formalities were fulfilled prior to executing the extradition.
Dubai Police stated the swift action is part of a broader commitment to strengthen international ties in law enforcement.
Such cooperation enhances the global security network by disrupting transnational criminal activity and fostering the sharing of best policing practices.
