International Museum Day 2026 in UAE: Six free and immersive experiences across Dubai and Abu Dhabi

DUBAI – International Museum Day is turning this weekend into an easy and budget-friendly excuse for a cultural day out.
Across Dubai and Abu Dhabi, some of the UAE’s best-known museums and immersive attractions are opening their doors free of charge from May 16 to 18.
The annual celebration, marked globally in more than 140 countries, gives residents and visitors a chance to explore stories, history and interactive experiences without paying for entry.
This year’s International Museum Day theme, “Museums Uniting a Divided World”, continues a tradition that began in 1977 and focuses on creating stronger cultural connections through shared experiences.
Dubai
For those heading to Expo City Dubai, Vision Pavilion is offering free entry throughout the weekend. The attraction takes visitors through an immersive journey inspired by the life and experiences of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The experience moves through landscapes and personal moments connected to desert traditions, childhood memories, horses and Dubai’s transformation over the years. Rather than a conventional gallery visit, the space unfolds through themed rooms and storytelling environments.
One section recreates the atmosphere of traditional desert life and introduces customs of the Bani Yas tribe, alongside Bedouin values built around generosity and respect. Another room offers a recreation of a childhood space from Zabeel Palace, providing a more personal glimpse into Sheikh Mohammed’s early years.
A dedicated installation also honours Dubai Millennium, the legendary horse closely linked to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Abu Dhabi
The capital is also joining the International Museum Day celebrations with free entry to three major destinations from May 16 to 18: Louvre Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum and Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.
For anyone who has postponed visiting the city’s cultural landmarks, the weekend creates a rare chance to experience some of Abu Dhabi’s biggest attractions without purchasing tickets.
The combination offers very different experiences. Visitors can move from global art collections and national heritage stories to exhibitions exploring science and the natural world, all within one long weekend.
