Dubai’s Island B takes shape as Nakheel awards Dh527mn contract
Integrated bridge links to strengthen connectivity with mainland districts
DUBAI – Nakheel, part of Dubai Holding Real Estate, has awarded a Dh 527 million contract to Al Nasr Contracting Company for the delivery of primary infrastructure and utilities works on Island B at Dubai Islands.
The project marks a further step in the emirate’s large-scale coastal expansion programme, reinforcing the pace of development across the masterplan.
The scope of works is designed to establish the essential groundwork for future residential, hospitality and mixed-use communities. It includes a comprehensive utilities network alongside transport and environmental infrastructure to support long-term urban growth.

Utilities network
The contract covers a wide range of enabling works, including roads and paving, potable water systems, electrical and telecom networks, as well as drainage and sewage infrastructure. It also incorporates integration with the district cooling plant network, ensuring energy-efficient services across the island. Technical coordination with Island A forms part of the delivery framework, supporting a unified infrastructure approach across the wider Dubai Islands development.

The works are designed with future resilience in mind, featuring utility systems intended to support sustainable expansion over time. Once completed, the infrastructure platform will unlock vertical construction opportunities across Island B, enabling developers to progress with residential towers, hospitality projects and mixed-use assets. The milestone reflects continued capital investment into foundational urban systems aligned with long-term planning objectives.
Coastal expansion
Dubai Islands spans 18.6 square kilometres across five interconnected islands and is set to introduce approximately 57 kilometres of coastline, including 21 kilometres of beachfront.
The masterplan is designed to accommodate more than 231,000 residents across around 49,000 homes, ranging from villas and mansions to apartments. It will also feature resorts, marinas, retail destinations and leisure facilities, positioning it as a major coastal district within the city’s future growth map.
Island B
Island B represents a central component of this development, requiring extensive enabling works before large-scale construction can proceed. The infrastructure award aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which focuses on sustainable expansion, enhanced liveability and economic diversification.
Connectivity is also a key feature of the wider project, with Dubai Islands set to link to the mainland via three bridges connected to the Al Shindagha Corridor, placing Dubai International Airport within 10 kilometres and Downtown Dubai within 15 kilometres.
