ABU DHABI – Etihad Airways has brought its Emirati talent strategy into public focus at the Mother of the Nation Festival in Abu Dhabi, using the popular community event to introduce UAE nationals to real career pathways within the airline.

The national carrier’s presence formed part of a wider effort to engage young Emiratis and their families, offering an accessible guide to opportunities across aviation, engineering, airport operations and corporate roles. Through storytelling, live interaction and community partnerships, Etihad positioned itself as both an employer and a long-term partner in national development.

The activation reflects Etihad’s broader approach to community engagement, with initiatives designed to meet people where they are and explain how careers in aviation take shape. By participating in one of Abu Dhabi’s largest cultural festivals, the airline placed Emirati ambition and professional growth at the centre of a public, family-focused setting.

Community focus

At the festival, Etihad delivered a series of interactive experiences aimed at connecting with diverse segments of society. These activations were structured to introduce visitors to the scale of the airline’s operations and the range of roles that sit behind every flight. Alongside talent engagement, Etihad collaborated with Emirati entrepreneurs and small businesses, giving local brands the opportunity to showcase products directly to festival audiences. The partnerships underlined the airline’s stated commitment to supporting national talent beyond its own workforce.

This dual focus on careers and entrepreneurship reinforced Etihad’s positioning as a company closely aligned with the community it serves. Visitors were able to engage informally with representatives, learn about different departments and understand how local skills contribute to global aviation operations.

Film premiere

A centrepiece of Etihad’s participation was the premiere of its UAE National Talent short film on the festival’s main stage. The film offered a cinematic introduction to the airline’s working world through the journey of two Emirati graduates travelling through Zayed International Airport en route to Manchester. As the narrative unfolds, viewers are taken behind the scenes to discover the roles that keep the airline running.

Engineers, technicians, pilots, airport managers and ground operations teams feature prominently, illustrating how different disciplines come together to deliver daily operations. By grounding the story in the experience of young Emiratis, the film served as a visual guide to what a career at Etihad can look like, from the first day on the job to international routes.

The screening formed part of Etihad’s wider effort to make career information tangible and relatable, particularly for students and early-career professionals considering aviation for the first time.

Talent pathways

The festival activities align with Etihad’s UAE National Talent Strategy, launched earlier this year to accelerate the development of Emirati professionals across the airline. The strategy is built around six specialised programmes, each designed to address specific career stages and skill sets.

These include the Cadet Pilot Programme, Cadet Technician Programme and Airport Management Programme, alongside the Bedayati Graduate Programme and MBA Graduate Programme. Etihad also offers an Emerging Talent Programme focused on direct hires for key corporate functions such as analytics, forecasting, business intelligence and other data-driven roles. Together, the programmes provide structured pathways across technical and corporate areas, supporting long-term growth within the UAE aviation sector.

Etihad has described 2025 as a period of rapid expansion, with fleet growth and the launch of 17 new destinations during the year. The airline has linked this expansion directly to its need for skilled Emirati professionals who can support operational scale while maintaining service standards.

What’s next

Etihad concluded its Mother of the Nation Festival participation with a raffle for attendees, offering prizes including flights to Manchester and tickets to watch Manchester City FC play live at the Etihad Stadium. The close marked another milestone in a year of talent-focused initiatives following the launch of the national strategy.

Earlier in the year, Etihad hosted its inaugural Khutwaty 2025 career fair, connecting Emirati candidates with opportunities across multiple departments. The airline has indicated that further community events and targeted career activations are planned, giving UAE nationals continued access to information about roles across the organisation.

Ambitious Emirati talent interested in upcoming intakes can explore Etihad’s 2026 career programmes and opportunities through the airline’s official website.
