Sharjah Airport soars past 5 million passengers in record-breaking quarter
Sea-air freight sees impressive 32.8% jump in quarterly performance
SHARJAH – The Sharjah Airport has achieved significant growth in the third quarter of 2025, with passenger numbers climbing to 5,127,120, marking a 16.7% increase compared to 4.39 million in the same period last year.
The surge underscores the airport’s expanding role as a regional and international travel hub.
Aircraft movements rise
Operational activity also gained momentum. Scheduled and non-scheduled flights totalled 30,737, reflecting a 10.7% rise from 27,758 flights recorded during the same period in 2024. The total number of aircraft movements reached 54,953, up 4.3% from 52,695 the previous year.
Cargo and freight growth
Sharjah Airport’s cargo handling operations continued their upward trajectory, handling 48,073 tonnes, an increase of 3.9% from 46,284 tonnes last year. The sea-air freight segment experienced an exceptional 32.8% surge, rising from 3,236 tonnes to 4,296 tonnes, demonstrating growing demand for multimodal logistics solutions.
Strategic expansion
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), said the figures reflect sustained growth and the airport’s pivotal role in supporting the emirate’s aviation ambitions. He attributed the success to ongoing infrastructure investments, capacity expansion, and digital transformation initiatives designed to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.
The airport’s expansion projects and digital initiatives are expected to further enhance connectivity across major regional and global routes, positioning Sharjah as a key hub for both travellers and trade in the years ahead.
