Edge of Life: Dubai’s RTA and Ellington pledge Dh10 million to fight global child hunger
Ramadan initiative aims to raise Dh1 billion worldwide
DUBAI – Dubai’s humanitarian drive gathered fresh momentum on Tuesday as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Ellington Properties each pledged Dh5 million to support the Edge of Life campaign.
Launched during Ramadan by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the campaign seeks to rescue five million children from hunger. It aims to raise a minimum of Dh1 billion to fund sustainable programmes tackling childhood malnutrition around the world.
Operating under the umbrella of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, the campaign builds on a series of Ramadan humanitarian drives that have drawn widespread support across the UAE.
Strategic support
The RTA described its Dh5 million contribution as part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment to national initiatives with global humanitarian reach.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said the campaign reflects a longstanding humanitarian approach that has positioned the UAE as a global model for sustainable institutional philanthropy. He noted that launching the initiative during Ramadan underscores the values of mercy, solidarity and compassion associated with the holy month.
Al Tayer highlighted that the campaign represents an urgent response to one of the world’s gravest challenges, with millions of children facing the threat of malnutrition. He added that investing in child nutrition is an investment in global stability and sustainable development, stressing the importance of effective partnerships to ensure aid reaches those most in need.
Community commitment
Ellington Properties also announced a Dh5 million contribution, reaffirming the private sector’s role in advancing humanitarian causes.
Joseph Thomas, Co-Founder of Ellington Properties, said the company’s support reflects the UAE’s values of solidarity and collective action. He emphasised that building communities extends beyond urban development to safeguarding children’s right to proper nutrition and a dignified life.
The developer described the initiative as an opportunity to contribute to a broader humanitarian vision rooted in responsibility and mutual progress, aligning with the UAE’s tradition of giving.
