UAE unveils 11km waterfront project to house 150,000 residents in Umm Al Quwain

DUBAI: A major new chapter in Umm Al Quwain’s urban and economic growth began with the launch of “Downtown Umm Al Quwain,” an expansive coastal project announced on Friday.
Spread over 25 million square feet, the development promises to redefine coastal living with an 11-kilometre stretch of uninterrupted shoreline, including seven kilometres of natural beaches and landscaped parks.
Led by His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain and Chairman of the Executive Council, the launch ceremony highlighted the emirate’s commitment to investment, sustainability, and innovation.
Downtown Umm Al Quwain
Designed as a vibrant mixed-use destination, Downtown Umm Al Quwain is structured around three key districts: North Beach, Trade Centre, and South Beach. These zones will integrate residential communities, office spaces, luxury hotels, entertainment hubs, and cultural attractions. A central feature is the Trade Centre, a 15 million square foot free zone operating under an independent legal framework, aimed at attracting international business and fostering cultural exchange.
Sobha Realty, renowned for its luxury developments, has partnered with the Government of Umm Al Quwain to bring this vision to life. The first phase of the project will introduce premium residential, commercial, and hospitality spaces, designed to accommodate approximately 150,000 residents.
Green focus
Environmental sustainability is central to the Downtown Umm Al Quwain project. Over 50 percent of the land is earmarked for green spaces, landscaped walkways, and marine conservation zones. Water-sensitive landscaping practices will be implemented to preserve the coastal environment, while infrastructure will be geared towards resilience and ecological harmony.
The Government of Umm Al Quwain has underlined the project as a transformative step towards positioning the emirate as an attractive destination for investors, residents, and tourists. His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla emphasised the critical role of strategic investments in driving economic development and unlocking new commercial potential.
