Historic UAE-Trinidad & Tobago agreement opens Caribbean travel for Emiratis
Agreement signed on sidelines of United Nations General Assembly in New York
DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Trinidad and Tobago have signed a landmark visa exemption agreement, allowing citizens of both nations to travel without visas.
UAE passport holders – including diplomatic, special, ordinary, and mission passports – can now enter Trinidad and Tobago freely. Similarly, holders of Trinidad and Tobago’s diplomatic and official passports are exempt from UAE visa requirements.
The historic agreement was finalised during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, highlighting its international significance.
UAE-Trinidad and Tobago travel
For UAE travellers, the visa waiver simplifies access to Trinidad and Tobago’s stunning landscapes, vibrant festivals, and historical sites. Trinidad offers a lively cultural scene, with Port of Spain known for its colonial architecture, diverse population, and the globally renowned Carnival.
Tobago, by contrast, is famous for its pristine beaches, coral reefs, and tranquil nature reserves, ideal for leisure and adventure.
The agreement covers a wide range of passport types, ensuring flexibility for both business and leisure travellers. UAE citizens can now explore the Caribbean islands without additional paperwork, while Trinidad and Tobago officials can access the UAE with ease, fostering cultural and diplomatic exchange.

The waiver was formalised by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Sean Sobers, Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Caribbean Affairs. Sheikh Abdullah also met with Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to discuss bilateral relations, trade, and investment opportunities, reinforcing the growing partnership between the two nations.
What should travellers know?
Even with visa-free access, UAE citizens are advised to ensure passports are valid for at least six months beyond travel dates, understand local customs, and explore both islands fully. Health precautions remain recommended, though no vaccinations are mandatory.
This agreement adds to the UAE passport’s global strength, now providing visa-free access to over 180 countries.
