Oscar-winning Indian composer returns to the UAE stage this month
ABU DHABI – Oscar-winning composer and global music icon A R Rahman is set to perform live in Abu Dhabi, bringing one of the most anticipated music events of 2026 to the UAE capital.
The legendary Indian artist will take over Etihad Arena for a one-night-only concert on Friday, 23 January 2026. Doors open at 6pm, with the show scheduled to begin at 8pm.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of his generation, Rahman’s Abu Dhabi appearance is expected to draw fans from across the region. The concert promises a large-scale production combining orchestral arrangements, cutting-edge visuals, and a repertoire spanning decades of acclaimed work in film and live performance.
Who is AR Rahman?
Rahman’s career spans more than three decades, during which he has reshaped contemporary Indian and global music. He rose to prominence with his groundbreaking score for Roja in the early 1990s, a debut that redefined film soundtracks and established him as a creative force. Since then, his work has crossed linguistic, cultural, and geographical boundaries.
International recognition followed with projects such as Slumdog Millionaire, which earned Rahman two Academy Awards and two Grammy Awards. His global acclaim has also been reinforced by honours including a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, the Padma Bhushan, and six National Film Awards, along with numerous Filmfare trophies. These achievements have positioned him among the most decorated composers in the world.
Beyond awards, Rahman’s influence is reflected in the enduring popularity of his music. Concert details
The event will be held at Etihad Arena, one of the region’s premier indoor venues, known for hosting major international concerts and sporting events. Tickets for the concert are priced from Dh225, with all attendees required to hold a valid ticket regardless of age. Guests under 16 must be accompanied by an adult aged 21 or above.
The organisers have confirmed that there will be no re-entry once inside the arena, and all ticket sales are final. Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable, and non-exchangeable, and may be subject to identity verification at entry. Professional cameras are not permitted, and bags larger than 30x30x15cm will not be allowed inside the venue.
Etihad Arena is accessible by car via major Abu Dhabi road networks, with clear signage guiding visitors from Sheikh Zayed Road and other key routes. For those using public transport, the Al Matar Al Qadeem bus stop is located approximately 800 metres from the venue. Taxis also provide direct access, with the arena recognised as a major city landmark.
Accessible seating is available for People of Determination, with designated tickets required. These can be arranged through the venue’s official booking channels. Food and beverages purchased outside the arena are not permitted, and venue management reserves the right to enforce all security and admission policies on the day of the event.
