DUBAIDubai gold prices extended their retreat on Friday, with rates across all major categories falling sharply from levels seen earlier this week.

The latest move comes after a bruising session in global bullion markets, where gold sank to its lowest level since early February as investors reacted to a stronger interest-rate outlook, high energy prices and renewed geopolitical strain.

In the UAE, the decline has pulled local jewellery prices well below Monday’s levels, putting Friday’s rates at the centre of attention for shoppers tracking the market ahead of the weekend.

Dubai gold rates

According to the Dubai Jewellery Group’s suggested retail jewellery prices for Friday, March 20, 2026, 24K gold stood at Dh565.25 per gram, while 22K was at Dh523.25, 21K at Dh501.75, 18K at Dh430.00 and 14K at Dh335.50.

That compares with Thursday, March 19, when rates were significantly higher: 24K at Dh584.50, 22K at Dh541.25, 21K at Dh519.00, 18K at Dh444.75 and 14K at Dh347.00. The day-on-day drop works out to Dh19.25 for 24K, Dh18.00 for 22K, Dh17.25 for 21K, Dh14.75 for 18K and Dh11.50 for 14K.

The slide has been building over several sessions. On Wednesday, March 18, 24K was Dh601.00, on Tuesday, March 17 it was Dh607.00, and on Monday, March 16 it stood at Dh604.25. That means Friday’s 24K rate is Dh41.75 lower than Monday, Dh35.75 below Tuesday, Dh35.75 below Wednesday, and Dh19.25 below Thursday. Across the same five-day stretch, 22K dropped Dh36.25, 21K fell Dh34.75, 18K lost Dh29.75, and 14K shed Dh23.25.

Global gold markets

Internationally, gold came under intense pressure on Thursday. Spot gold fell 4.3 percent to $4,612.21 an ounce, its lowest since early February, while US gold futures for April delivery settled 5.9 percent lower at $4,605.70.

Reuters reported the decline marked a seventh consecutive session of losses, as investors weighed the impact of higher energy prices, inflation risks and the prospect that major central banks may keep borrowing costs elevated for longer.

The wider backdrop remains dominated by the Middle East conflict. Oil prices had surged after attacks on regional energy infrastructure and concerns around shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, though by Friday Brent crude had eased to about $107.41 a barrel after the US and allies signalled steps to improve supply and shipping security. The stronger inflation narrative, together with a shifting dollar picture and reports that President Donald Trump’s administration was considering reinforcing its Middle East operation, added to the volatility seen across commodities and broader markets.

Other precious metals

The retreat was not limited to gold. Spot silver slipped 5.3 percent to $71.39 per ounce, while platinum fell 3.7 percent to $1,949.20 and palladium lost 2.4 percent to $1,440.29.
