UAE demands full clarity on US-Iran ceasefire and Strait of Hormuz access
Authorities stress need for immediate halt to hostilities and secure maritime routes
DUBAI – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is closely monitoring developments following the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as declared by US President Donald Trump.
Authorities in the UAE have emphasised the need for clarity on the terms of the agreement, with a particular focus on ensuring Iran’s full compliance with an immediate cessation of hostilities.
The call also extends to the complete and unconditional reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global shipping route. UAE officials have underscored that any agreement must be robust, enforceable, and capable of restoring stability across the region.
US-Iran ceasefire
In a detailed statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) highlighted that the UAE is reviewing the provisions of the ceasefire closely. The nation is seeking guarantees that Iran will halt all hostile actions and respect regional security commitments without delay. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global oil supplies pass, remains central to these discussions, with the UAE stressing the need for uninterrupted freedom of navigation.

The Ministry also pointed to the broader implications of any agreement, noting that lasting peace requires not just a temporary cessation of hostilities but a comprehensive framework addressing long-term threats. These include regional stability, maritime security, and the protection of critical energy infrastructure.
Security concerns
MoFA condemned what it described as unprovoked Iranian attacks over the past 40 days, which targeted infrastructure, energy facilities, and civilian sites. According to the statement, these attacks involved 2,819 ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones, resulting in loss of life and significant property damage.
The UAE asserted that such actions necessitate accountability, including full responsibility for damages and reparations. It emphasised that any sustainable resolution must address the full spectrum of Iran’s military and strategic capabilities, including ballistic missiles, drones, nuclear-related concerns, and affiliated proxy groups. The statement further called for an end to what it described as economic warfare and piracy in the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring the need for secure and lawful maritime activity.
UAE’s diplomatic position
The UAE reiterated that it is not a party to the ongoing conflict and has actively pursued diplomatic efforts to prevent escalation. These efforts have included bilateral engagements and coordination within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), reflecting the country’s commitment to dialogue and de-escalation.
At the same time, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and national achievements. It stressed the importance of Iran adhering fully to United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), adopted on 11 March 2026, which condemned the attacks and demanded their immediate cessation.
The statement concluded with a broader appeal for a comprehensive and sustained approach to regional security, highlighting the UAE’s hope for achieving long-term stability and peace across the region while ensuring the protection of international navigation and global economic interests.
