Dubai T100 Triathlon draws 2,000 athletes from 57 nationalities
Al Mamzar hosts the event for the first time this November
DUBAI – More than 2,000 athletes representing 57 nationalities have registered for the third edition of the Dubai T100 Triathlon Weekend, which will take place from 13th to 15th November at Al Mamzar.
The event is supported by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism and Dubai Sports Council and will move to the waterfront destination for the first time. The race weekend comes as the T100 Race to Qatar enters its closing stages, with a women-only professional field set to headline the Dubai competition.
More than one-third of registered participants have previously competed in the event, highlighting continued interest in the Dubai race. Last year’s edition attracted more than 3,000 triathletes and over 15,000 spectators.
Race programme
The amateur programme has been expanded this year with the introduction of an Olympic-distance triathlon. The new event will feature a 1.5-kilometre swim, a 40-kilometre bike ride and a 10-kilometre run.
Participants will also be able to enter relay competitions across the Olympic and Sprint distances, adding further options for those looking to take part as teams.
The Sprint race will comprise a 750-metre swim, followed by a 20-kilometre bike ride and a 5-kilometre run. The 100-kilometre race will feature a 2-kilometre swim, an 80-kilometre bike ride and an 18-kilometre run.
Sam Renouf, CEO of the Professional Triathletes Organisation, said the registration figures reflected the growing momentum around the event. He also highlighted the move to Al Mamzar, which will provide a single venue for the entire race weekend.
The addition of the Olympic-distance and relay events is expected to broaden participation, while the professional competition will bring leading female triathletes to Dubai as the T100 Race to Qatar approaches its conclusion.
The professional race in Dubai will be contested exclusively by women this year under the revised T100 competition format. Twenty of the world’s leading female professional triathletes are expected to compete, with the final line-up due to be announced in the coming weeks.
The men’s and women’s professional fields will reunite at the Qatar T100 Triathlon World Championship Final, scheduled to take place from 10th to 12th December.
Organisers are also encouraging greater participation among Emirati women and girls, with opportunities available across the Sprint, Olympic, relay and 100-kilometre races.
Dubai Fitness Challenge
The Dubai T100 will form part of the 10th edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, which runs from 31st October to 29th November under the 30x30 initiative.
Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council, said the Dubai T100 Triathlon Weekend had become an important fixture on Dubai’s sporting calendar. He said the move to Al Mamzar would showcase another distinctive part of the emirate to international audiences.
The event will also support the wider objectives of the Dubai Fitness Challenge by bringing elite competition together with participation opportunities for people of different ages and abilities.
Spectator entry to Al Mamzar will be free throughout the race weekend.
