Global trends
Internationally, gold prices have surged more than 3 percent in recent sessions, driven largely by dip-buying and geopolitical uncertainty. Spot gold recently climbed to around $4,491 per ounce, after touching intraday highs above $4,550. The rebound follows a brief pullback earlier in the week when prices slipped to a four-month low near $4,098.
The rally comes as markets react to escalating tensions in the Middle East. The ongoing conflict, now in its fourth week, has heightened investor demand for safe-haven assets. Developments involving the United States and Iran remain closely watched, particularly after President Donald Trump extended a deadline related to energy infrastructure negotiations to April 7.
Oil prices have remained elevated above $110 per barrel, supported by concerns around supply disruptions, especially linked to the Strait of Hormuz. Rising energy costs have intensified inflation fears globally, influencing expectations around interest rate policies. Traders have largely ruled out rate cuts in 2026, shifting sentiment towards tighter monetary conditions, which typically pressure gold but are currently outweighed by geopolitical risks.
Other precious metals
Other precious metals have also followed gold’s upward trajectory. Spot silver rose to approximately $69.54 per ounce, marking a gain of over 2 percent. Platinum traded higher at around $1,868.89, while palladium edged up to $1,377.25.
