Apple’s iPhone 20 Pro could bring quad-curved screens for its 20th anniversary
Test-stage details remain unconfirmed ahead of the expected 2027 launch
DUBAI – Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro series has only recently arrived, while the company’s first foldable iPhone is expected to reach consumers in October. Despite that, early leaks about the next major generation have already begun emerging.
Reports are now offering a glimpse at what the iPhone 20 Pro and iPhone 20 Pro Max could look like, with changes reportedly focused on the display and front-facing design.
The devices are expected to arrive in 2027, which will mark 20 years since the original iPhone was introduced. Apple has not confirmed the name of its next-generation models, but several reports have suggested the company could skip the iPhone 19 branding and use iPhone 20 to mark the anniversary.
Bigger displays
According to details attributed to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 20 Pro could feature a 6.41-inch display with a resolution of around 2686 × 1236 pixels. That would represent a modest increase over the 6.3-inch, 2622 × 1206-pixel panel reported for the iPhone 18 Pro.
The iPhone 20 Pro Max is reportedly set to retain a screen close to 6.9 inches, although one leak puts its display at approximately 6.96 inches. Its resolution could rise to around 2912 × 1340 pixels, compared with the reported 2868 × 1320 pixels on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The reported specifications suggest that Apple could make the screens slightly larger while maintaining a broadly similar overall form factor.
Curved glass
The more significant change could involve the shape of the display itself. Reports suggest Apple is exploring a borderless quad-curved screen for the iPhone 20 Pro range, potentially moving away from the flat panels used on recent iPhone generations.
The reported design would use curved glass extending towards all four edges, creating an appearance in which the bezels could become far less noticeable. Some reports have described the concept as using optical refraction and carefully engineered glass structures to create the impression of a display stretching towards the edges.
Apple has previously used curved edges on some iPhone designs, but the company moved to flat-sided displays with the iPhone 12 generation. A return to curved display technology would therefore represent a substantial change in the current design language.
Smaller cutout
Another reported change concerns the Dynamic Island. Rather than completely removing the cutout, Apple could reportedly reduce it substantially and move towards a tiny punch-hole-style opening for the front camera.
That would give the display a cleaner appearance while retaining a visible camera cutout. Earlier concepts and renders had suggested the possibility of an iPhone with no visible front cutout, with the camera and Face ID technology potentially positioned beneath the screen.
The latest leak instead points to test-stage hardware featuring a small visible opening, although that does not necessarily indicate what will appear on the final retail models.
With the expected launch still roughly a year away, Apple has considerable time to modify the hardware, display technology and front-facing components during development and testing. The reported iPhone 20 Pro specifications and quad-curved design therefore remain unconfirmed, while the company has yet to announce the devices or officially confirm the iPhone 20 name.
